From Print Industry to Bronze Casting: An Artistic Evolution

Born in 1970, Shan lea discovered her voice through art early in life, surrounded by paper and creativity thanks to parents in the print industry. What began with drawing and painting evolved into a lifelong passion for three-dimensional form.

After starting her career as a screen printer, Shan lea pursued formal training at Hungry Creek Art School from 1998 to 2000, studying sculpture, jewelry, pottery, painting, and life drawing. She ultimately found her calling in sculpture, developing a practice that spans multiple materials and scales.

Between 2010 and 2013, she worked at one of New Zealand’s largest bronze casting studios, mastering the intricate techniques of wax work, mold making, casting, metal finishing, and patination. This intensive experience gave her the technical foundation to bring even the most ambitious visions to life.
